Tooth Replacement
Dental Implants - A Natural-looking, Secure, Permanent Solution
For the replacement of missing teeth it is imperative that dental implants are considered.
A few examples of how effective dental implants can be:

For a patient missing one or more natural teeth, dental implants are a natural-looking, secure and permanent solution.
The dental implant can provide a more natural appearance and feel than other dental repair or reconstruction options whether replacing a
single tooth or multiple teeth.
Unlike conventional bridgework, dental implants provide an aesthetically pleasing replacement for teeth without the need to cut down or trim adjacent
teeth.
Dental implants most closely emulate real teeth by replacing not only the tooth, but also the root of the tooth.
During tooth repair, dental preparation of healthy teeth near an affected area
can undermine tooth integrity and lead to problems at a later date.
The implant, however, in addition to preserving adjacent teeth, prevents the loss of bone in the area of the missing tooth.
Preventing Bone Loss
Immediately following the loss of a tooth the bone begins to dissolve or
melt away. When the missing tooth or teeth are replaced with an implant,
function is restored to the bone and resorption of the bone prevented.
The jawbone requires the chewing action of teeth to stimulate it
and keep it strong. Without this natural pressure the bone begins to disappear or atrophy.
When teeth and facial bones do not support the facial structure, the face can change, compress and begin to appear prematurely aged.
How the implant works
To replace a tooth with a dental implant, Dr. D'Angelo places the implant
in the bone in the position of the missing tooth root.
The implant attaches to your bone, acting as an anchor or new "root" for the crown that will
replace the missing tooth.
New crowns are attached after the implant has undergone an integration period.
Four to six months after the placement of the initial dental implant "root" your final restoration (a
crown or cap, which is made to look like a natural tooth) is placed by Dr. D'Angelo.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
After a thorough dental examination with appropriate x-rays
and use of advanced study models, Dr. D'Angelo can help you determine if you are
a candidate for dental implants.
For example, people who have lost teeth may feel too self-conscious to talk or smile.
In addition, biting irregularities caused by missing teeth can have a negative effect on eating habits,
and lead to secondary health problems such as malnutrition.
The loss of facial bone may lead to
premature facial aging.
