Overbite: What people often call an "overbite"
is termed an "overjet" by dental professionals.
The overbite occurs when your upper teeth literally extend over the lower teeth when your teeth are placed together.
This 'overjet' is usually caused by bad oral habits, genetics or over-development of bone that supports the teeth.
This bite issue can lead to irritation, gum problems and wear and tear on the lower teeth and can eventually be the cause of painful
joint and jaw problems.
Underbite: When the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth, this is termed an underbite.
This bite issue can be caused by overgrowth of the lower jaw, undergrowth of the upper jaw, or missing upper teeth.
Underbites can prevent the normal function and bite impact molars or front teeth which may lead to damage to and wearing of teeth.
This miss-match of teeth again also cause painful joint and jaw problems. Even TMJ.
Dr. D'Angelo consults and works with you and to create a custom-designed program that treats your specific dental or orthodontic issue(s).
